Head of Content Design, Communities Product Group (Facebook Inc., 2017 -2021)

Led an org of 25+ UX Content Designers to execute on the company’s shifting strategy towards building meaningful connections to community. In my time at the company, this work contributed to 4x growth (100M to 400M+) in the number of people connected on Facebook to a community they find meaningful (the team’s key metric). My focus areas included leading UX strategy for complex and foundational community spaces such as group admin tools and support, reporting flows, privacy settings, profiles, growth, and more. I was also a UX leader in new areas for the company, such as Dating, Workplace, and racial justice work. Another key focus for me was driving and building a cross-functional UX culture to create an org with Research, Design and Content focused on strong relationships, efficient processes and impactful work.

Head of UX Writing, Apple Media Products (Apple Inc., 2007 - 2017)

First as the sole UX Writer—and then later with a team that I built from scratch—I created and was responsible for the UX voice that reached more than 800 million users by the time I left. My team partnered closely with HI Design to create compelling user experiences for Apple’s media products. This included Apple Music, the iTunes Store, the App Store, Apple TV, and more. Other areas of responsibility included user documentation, style guides, technical specs, emails, and newsletters for customers and content providers such as movie studios, record labels, and app developers.

UI Writer and Information Architect (Walmart.com, 2004 - 2006)

Worked with business and product managers to determine project goals and requirements. Performed competitive research to refine interaction design. Developed process flow, created wireframes, and documented functional specifications. Worked as part of the User Experience team to redesign major portions of the Walmart.com web site, focused primarily on the Digital Life team with work in the Digital Photo Center and Digital Music Downloads. Responsible for user interface writing, instructional content, error messaging, nomenclature and help content. Assisted with usability testing and contributed to the development of a UI style guide, process overhauls, and design frameworks.

Instructional Designer (Apple Inc., 2001 - 2003)

Developed instructional content for the print manuals and online help system for all PowerBooks and iBooks. Developed inbox instructional materials for all Apple displays, mice, and other peripherals. Determined graphic-design needs for all content and worked with designers to meet those needs. Worked with engineers, marketers, and project managers to understand and document features and functionality of hardware products and accompanying software and operating system. Brought content through several review cycles, adjusted files accordingly, and handed off to print and software bundle builds.
